Safety should be your number one priority.
Spring is just around corner and you’re getting ready to work your cattle once again before turning them out to summer pasture. With the thought of once again running cattle through your old, worn-out corral system, disastrous scenarios keep playing out in your mind.
What if that old, crowding tub gate gave way at the hinges with a loved one behind it? Next thing you know, you’re on your way to the emergency room - all as a result of that worn-out working facility not being strong enough to do the job and keep not only you, but more importantly your loved one safe. This nightmare alone makes the thought of a newer, safer working facility more appealing when you compare that with the price of a hospital bill. For everyone’s safety - your cattle, your family, and yourself - be sure to thoroughly check over your working facility this spring before it’s used. If something needs to be repaired or replaced, do so beforehand so you’re less likely to run into problems when working cattle, and avoid trips to the ER.
If you have been looking at upgrading your old working facility, there is no better time than the present. MFA will have multiple cattle working facilities on
sale this spring. Be on the lookout for special prices on Applegate, Powder River, and Tarter cattle working equipment on the upcoming March and April sale flyers. If you’re interested in comparing many different cattle handling facilities, be sure to attend the Western Farm Show February 24th-26th. MFA will have two booths at the Western Farm Show. Both booths will have many brands of cattle handling equipment to compare and choose from.
Also, don’t forget about the low stress livestock handling demonstration going on in the Scott Pavilion on Saturday, February 25th by Dr. Ronald Gill, Texas Agrilife Extension Specialist. There will be two demonstrations, the first at 10:30 am and the second at 2:00 pm. Watch Dr. Gill show you how to handle livestock with minimal stress and learn the benefits of utilizing these practices on your own operation.
Be safe this spring, no matter what the job at hand. As always, if you have any questions about the livestock working equipment we carry (or any of our MFA products), be sure to contact your local MFA.
