Recognizing the inherent dangers in agriculture, MFA promotes a culture of safety at the workplace, on the road and in the field.
Agriculture can be a dangerous industry at times. At MFA, safety is a priority. We want to ensure our employees and our customers can go home safely to their families at the end of the work day.
MFA’s Safety, Environmental and Regulatory (SER) Department leads the way in these efforts with expert personnel who help ensure company compliance with the extensive rules, laws and standards that cover agricultural operations and hazards while helping to maintain safe and healthy work environments. When MFA relaunched its workplace safety program in 2015 as “SHIELD: Safe Habits Improve Employees’ Lives Daily,” the goal of the behavior-based system was to reduce workplace accidents. The program relies on employees throughout the company being trained to talk about safety with their fellow workers. From truck drivers to office staff to personnel at feed mills and fertilizer plants, MFA employees have many conversations about safe work practices and document those discussions.
The company also continues to remind employees that they have very important reasons to make safety a motivator—children and other family members. That’s why MFA holds an annual Farm Safety Poster Contest to help us picture these positive practices through the eyes of the next generation. The contest is open to children and grandchildren of current MFA Incorporated, MFA Enterprises or local affiliate employees. Winners are chosen in grades K-1, 2-3 and 4-6 along with an overall Best of Show. Poster topics focus on safety in agriculture, whether that’s working at MFA or on the farm. The contest is conducted each fall, and winners are announced in the April edition of Today’s Farmer. See the latest winners in the gallery below.

If you don’t have your herbicide labels on hand, the CDMS label database is a convenient way to look up the most current label and SDS for all crop protection products. Access the site here.
