What is the difference between the MFA Shield products? Here is a definitive explanation of the products, their uses and benefits.
When Shield Technology was introduced in 2015, MFA minerals and feeds were the first to receive this proprietary, research-tuned blend of essential oils and other additives to enhance animal performance and health. Since then, the Shield family of products has expanded tremendously to include a complete selection of products to fit just about any feeding situation. Wondering which Shield products are right for your farm? This infographic helps explain the differences and purposes of each.
Shield Technology is available in feeds throughout MFA’s nutritional portfolio for animals at all stages of production. Feeds with Shield help improve the animal’s immune system, protect against oxidative stress, boost digestive health and increase feed efficiency, daily gain, rumen function breedback and overall performance.
All MFA Ricochet minerals contain Shield to improve colostrum quality and production and stimulate the animal’s immune response. Shield’s essential oils have been shown to improve performance of animals grazing fescue pastures. That’s on top of the benefits of Ricochet’s complete vitamin-mineral formulation that covers the animal’s dietary requirements.
Shield Technology is now available in Performance First supplement tubs, which are made by MFA. These tubs come in both a 20-percent protein pressed formula and 16-percent poured version. They contain all the trace vitamins and minerals cattle need for a balanced, healthy diet. Shield is also available in QLF liquid supplements.
This supplement contains concentrated colostrum extract, synbiotics, botanical extracts, fatty acids and vitamins. Use on newborn and stressed animals to stimulate appetite, provide quick energy, promote growth, and develop immunity. Spray-dried egg antibodies also help combat scours. It’s administered with a convenient dosing syringe or pump bottle.
Shield Plus APF
This animal-protein-free version of Shield Plus has the same purposes and benefits but does not contain egg antibodies. This formulation allows producers to meet increasing consumer demand for products sourced from livestock that have not consumed animal proteins.
This liquid version of Shield is designed to be mixed in stock tanks, water medicators, milk replacer and liquid feed. Available in quart, gallon and 5-gallon containers, it encourages water intake during times of stress or disease challenge. Use Shield Liquid during when animals are being weaned, shipped, received or shown or when recovering from disease.
