This summer, a new chapter begins for MFA Incorporated’s internship program, which now includes a separate opportunity for college students to work as Agri Services interns in addition to the company’s traditional Ag Experience track.
This year’s program kicked off May 18 with nine Ag Experience participants, who will spend the summer in tailored roles as MFA employees, growing professionally and gaining agriculture industry knowledge. They began their 12-week internship with orientation at MFA’s home office in Columbia. The next day, they toured the MFA agronomy center at Macon, Mo., and plant food terminal at Palmyra, Mo. The program will conclude Aug. 12, when interns will give a presentation about their projects and experiences to senior-level managers.
The Ag Experience program is designed to challenge, educate and inspire students pursuing careers in agriculture, business and communications. To be eligible, applicants must be full-time students working toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university. Each MFA intern is paired with a mentor who helps customize the internship toward the student’s interests and career objectives.
The four Agri Services interns will explore multiple career opportunities within MFA retail locations through a comprehensive, hands-on learning approach. This year’s participants are Adeline Stone, Brayden Smith, Teagan Sowers and Jayleigh Arndt.
The Agri Services internships target students pursuing two-year degrees. Through a structured rotation schedule, interns are paired with a mentor and spend time in various roles at their assigned MFA locations. Along with technical knowledge, Agri Services interns also focus on skills such as communication, teamwork and customer service.
In addition to these two programs, MFA also offers opportunities for students to specialize as Crop-Trak interns, working with the agronomy team to scout crops and make recommendations to participating farmers. Five Crop-Trak interns are on this summer’s staff: Emery Mast, Troy Zeilstra, Joshua Korte, Thomas Robinson and Kinder Standley.
For students interested in next year’s programs, applications open Sept. 1. Learn more at mfa-inc.com/internships.
