Expanding opportunity in ag education

MFA Foundation scholarships now support certificate programs, opening more doors for rural students

Agriculture is evolving, and so are the skills it takes to succeed. From precision technology and agronomy to mechanics and animal care, today’s industry needs people with hands-on training as well as academic knowledge. Recognizing that, the MFA Foundation is expanding its long-standing scholarship program to include certificate programs—opening doors for even more students to pursue meaningful careers in agriculture and related fields.

Beginning with the 2026 awards, the MFA Foundation scholarships, which are $2,500 each, can be applied not only to associate and bachelor’s degrees but also to accredited certificate programs. These shorter, career-focused courses equip students with specialized skills that rural communities and agribusinesses increasingly need.

Eligible recipients include children or grandchildren (including step-relations) of member-level customers of MFA Agri Services, MFA Oil bulk or propane plants, and other affiliated locations.

Since its inception in 1965, the Foundation has supported nearly 16,000 students with more than $18.7 million in educational assistance—an investment in both young people and the future of rural America.

Applications for 2026 open Dec. 1 and run until Feb. 15. More information is available at mfafoundation.com.
