Feeding dairy cattle for success

With a dedication to performance and quality, MFA can design a program to fit your operation’s needs

MFA offers a broad spectrum of dairy feeds to fit the many different feeding systems observed on the farm. This flexibility allows MFA to address the needs of all dairy producers, whether producers feed complete feed or grind-and-mix, feed through the parlor, use total mixed rations or a computer feeding system. Cows must be fed large quantities of high-quality feedstuffs in the proper combinations to be able to express their genetic potential. A dairy cow should consume 4% of her body weight daily as total dry matter (forage + grain). Fifteen to 20 lbs. of hay or equivalent from other forages will keep a cow’s rumen functioning normally. Feed some grain during the last 7 to 10 days of the dry period to lead cows into production. Challenge cows with high nutrient intakes during early lactation for maximum efficiency. For each 1-lb. increase in peak production, you will get about 225 more pounds milk per lactation. Don't forget water. Mature dairy cows will drink approximately 15 to 35 gallons of water per head daily.

MFA Dairy Feeds & Supplements

When it comes to dairy nutrition, MFA delivers solutions, not just feed. For a balanced and complete dairy feeding program, producers can count on MFA’s dairy nutritionists to help maintain greater efficiency and make sure they’re getting the most for their feed dollars. MFA feeds are designed for high production. To achieve this, dairy cattle must get as much dry matter intake as possible. The average herd will only consume 3.1% of their body weight as dry matter consisting of grain and forage. To have a milking herd that averages 20,000 lbs. of milk per year or greater, dry matter intake must exceed 4% of body weight. Extremely high-producing cows that produce in excess of 35,000 lbs. of milk per year will consume 6% of their body weight in dry matter intake. Talk with your MFA livestock expert for more information or visit the MFA location nearest you.

A textured starter feed for dairy calves. Extremely palatable, nutrient-dense formulation. Stand Out’s sugars and milk products boost consumption for dairy and beef calves and get them on solid feed quicker. The carefully selected ingredient mix encourages rumen development and supports good average daily gain. Starter feed intake is linked to significant grain improvement, and Stand Out has the nutrition your calves need to thrive and grow. Begin feeding when calves are 2 to 3 days old and feed for 4 to 12 weeks. Better fed with free-choice water. Medicated with Bovatec for coccidiosis control.
